- Ensure that a thorough process does not distract pastors from their primary call: to make disciples of Jesus Christ
Pastor Application Process
1. Create an Application Portal Account
Use the link below to create your account. After registering, you will receive access to the materials needed to begin the discernment and application process.
2. Discern Your Fit with ECO
Review ECO’s theology, polity, and core values to determine whether ECO is the appropriate denominational home for you.
3. Complete the Online Application
Submit all required materials through the application portal: join.eco-pres.org.
At this stage you will also pay the background check fee within the portal (alternate payment options are listed there).
4. Administrative Review
Once your application is complete:
-
The ECO Office conducts the background check
-
Your materials are reviewed for completeness
-
Your application is forwarded to the presbytery you are applying to
A representative from that presbytery will contact you to schedule a meeting.
5. Meet with the Presbytery
Meet for an interview with the Ministry Partnership Team (MPT) of the calling presbytery or the presbytery in your geographic location. This interview will help discern theological and ministerial fit with ECO, the presbytery, and the church.
6. Approval and Dismissal (if applicable)
After receiving the official Acceptance Letter from the ECO presbytery, request a letter of dismissal from your current denomination.
Send this letter to your presbytery leadership (specifically the MPT Chair and the Clerk.) Their contact information will be provided to you by this stage of the process.
6. ECO Membership
Once the ECO Office receives both the acceptance and dismissal letters (if required), your status will be updated to ECO Pastor.
