Artistry is best defined as creativity working within immutable laws of nature....
I don’t know about you, but sometimes I get a bit overwhelmed by all the information available to us through various social media outlets. I have a love/hate relationship with Facebook. On the one hand, I can waste precious time reading through posts of my friends. On the other hand, it keeps me up-to-date on what is going on in people’s lives who I may not talk to frequently, but still care about. It helps me to know how to be praying for folks, and for that, I am thankful.
One resource I have been fond of for awhile is the podcast. I enjoy listening to sermons preached from some of my peers, or by preachers I admire, as a way to improve my own preaching skills. I’ve been “wow-ed” by the availability of online classes in theology or church history from different seminaries or universities. I have also enjoyed listening to other informational recordings on topics like how to improve my cycling ability or how to speak Spanish.
While there is an abundance of podcasts out there, I wanted to share with you three that I have found to be inspiring, convicting, and very well done that pertain to our work together in ECO as leaders within Christ’s church.
1. The Reclaimed Leader (https://reclaimedleader.com): This podcast is the brainchild of ECO pastor, Jesse Skiffington, and PC(USA) pastor, Jason Tucker. Jesse and Jason are two senior pastors navigating their congregations through change and transformation. They are asking the question that many pastors are asking – How do we do this? So they’ve put together a podcast which brings together leaders and experts from whom they want to learn. I was humbled to be invited as a guest on the Reclaimed Leader to talk about our ECO distinctive of covenantal accountability. Jesse and Jason put together great episode notes to go along with each podcast so you can pick and choose different topics to listen to if you’re short on time. Also, if you’re new to ECO, I strongly encourage you to listen to Episode 28 – not because I think I’m all that, but because our discussion covers much of who we are in ECO, and might be helpful as you make the assimilation into this movement God has called into being.
2. Strengthening the Soul of Your Leadership (https://ruthhaleybarton.podbean.com): Ruth Haley Barton, author and founder of the Transforming Center, leads this podcast based on her work around encouraging leaders to lead out of being centered in their lives with Christ. She continues to bring her listeners back to the importance of our own spiritual health in Christ as the source of leadership. I have found this podcast to be both affirming in some ways and challenging in others.
3. The Emotionally Healthy Leader (https://www.emotionallyhealthy.org/news-media/podcast-2/): Led by Pete Scazzero, author of the Emotionally Healthy Leader. Several people I love and admire have recommended Pete’s books to me, but admittedly I still haven’t gotten around to reading them. I was thrilled to find this podcast, so I could begin learning from him. His podcast is very complementary to “Strengthening the Soul of Your Leadership,” but covers the subject a little differently. His topics have been very thought provoking for me as I have pondered what it means in my own life as I follow Christ and seek to grow as a leader in Christ’s church.
I’d love to hear what other podcasts you have found helpful in your work as a ministry leader within ECO. Feel free to shoot me a message at email@example.com.
