Meet The Moderators Blog Series

By:

It has only been 4 years since ECO was launched (in January of 2012) and it took another 5 months before any congregations were actually able to join ECO. At the time of our 2016 gathering in Newport Beach, ECO was made up of 252 congregations that represent over 100,000 covenant partners.

There are currently 263 congregations and 387 pastors that have joined ECO. To see where the members and churches of ECO are, check out our interactive map on the home page! If you are interested in becoming a member of ECO, please read through our Join ECO page.

We multiplied from 2 presbyteries, to 9, to 13, and are now on our way to 20 presbyteries in the next year or so. We have a few dozen church plants, some of which have formally launched and others that are in the early planning and formation stages. We have so much to be thankful for regarding the Lord’s faithfulness.

New Presbyteries

The goal of a presbytery is to provide support, flexibility, and encouragement for churches to pursue their Kingdom purposes. In ECO polity, the role of the presbytery is to support, encourage, and be a resource for local congregations. ECO presbyteries are designed to be flexible and to cultivate connection and community among member churches. During the first part of 2014, ECO reorganized from its two original presbyteries (Presbytery of the East and Presbytery of the West) into nine presbyteries. This year, ECO formed 4 additional presbyteries in the East. View all 13 by visiting our presbytery page!

New Blog Series

Every Thursday we will be featuring one of our new presbytery moderators on the ECO blog. In the past we have introduced Nate Dreesman, Moderator for the Presbytery of the West, Betsy Straeter, Moderator for the Presbytery of Southern California, and Ron Horn, Moderator for the Presbytery of Alaska. Please note when reading their articles, that some of the regions and boundaries in those presbyteries have changed since the transition from 9 to 13 ECO presbyteries.

We are excited to begin this new series, learn more about what God has been doing in each presbytery, and how we can be praying for and supporting our greater ECO family as we grow. We believe in living out the whole of the Great Commission – including evangelism, spiritual formation, compassion, and redemptive justice – in our communities and around the world. ECO seeks to be a true gospel movement, not just a denomination!
